Tell us about your family: Two teenagers in high school and a dog.
What is your hometown? Greenfield, Iowa
Where are you employed? What is your title? City of Council Bluffs, Community Development Project Coordinator
Tell us a little bit about your professional achievements? Certified Housing Development Finance Professional through the National Development Council and Certified HOME Program Specialist through HUD.
What volunteer efforts are you involved with? Iowa Paint-A-Thon; Leadership Council Bluffs Alumni Volunteer for community events such as RAGBRAI; Neighborhood Association; National Multiple Sclerosis Societ
Why do you volunteer? Working with others toward a common goal of making our community a better place is a very good thing.
How do you balance your professional career and personal life? Sometimes it is hard. I make lots of lists and always take time to spend with my family.
What is your favorite pastime/hobby? I enjoy walking the dog, reading and trying new things.
What about your job keeps you motivated? Bringing people together, such as service providers, funders, and the government to work toward a common goal.
What advice would you give to someone interested in your specific career? Find a summer program or internship with a local government and/or visit with a City Planner to gain their perspective. One must enjoy working with people.
What are you most proud of having accomplished in your professional career or personal life? Assembling the land for and the successful completion of Trolley Park at 28th Street and Avenue A and B.
What is the one goal that you would most like to accomplish? To become a certified planner by obtaining the American Planning Association’s American Institute of Certified Planners designation.
What do you enjoy most about working in the Council Bluffs community? There are so many opportunities and possibilities in Council Bluffs, especially for those willing to take an active role in the community.
