Tony Boone Bio
Tony Boone is a senior writer who provides sports coverage for The Daily Nonpareil and the western Iowa edition of the Omaha World-Herald. He is originally from Tabor, Iowa, and is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Since earni
ng his degree in 1994, Tony has been involved in all forms of sports media. He spent five years as a play-by-play broadcaster and sports show host on television and radio before beginning to focus on print journalism in 1999. In the past decade, Tony has written for The Daily Nonpareil, Omaha World-Herald, Grand Island (Neb.) Independent, Hastings (Neb.) Tribune, Lincoln (Neb.) Journal-Star, The Associated Press, Nebraska Sports Magazine and Huskers Illustrated, as well as other publications.
Nearly every time Tony covers an event, something happens that he wants to share with readers that, for some reason, doesn’t make it to the print edition of the newspaper. He also often has a thought on an event or topic that he’d like to throw out without having to delve too deeply into it.
Tony’s original Piece of Mind column in The Daily Nonpareil originated from these circumstances. He, frankly, gives himself peace of mind by offering a piece of his mind – hence the name. Duties, deadlines and time constraints haven’t allowed him to write those Pieces nearly enough lately. An online blog seemed like a reasonable, and obvious, solution … so here it is.
Piece of Mind: The Blog will be just that – a place for Tony to share the things he always wants to, but never seems to get the chance to. He hopes it is interesting and informative while also providing sports fans with a few minutes of enjoyment.
Stop by often. It seems Tony always has something on his mind.
