Like wine? Here are a couple things to consider with Valentine’s Day approaching.
Now through noon on Tuesday, people can register at traveliowa.com to win a $50 gift certificate to their favorite Iowa winery, a $50 gift certificate to their favorite Dine Iowa restaurant and an iPad2 pre-loaded with the Iowa Wine and Beer and Dine Iowa apps.
The gift certificates are good at one of more than 80 Iowa wineries and 400 Iowa restaurants. The winner will be announced on the Iowa Tourism Office’s Facebook page at 2:14 p.m. on Tuesday.
Don’t want to wait to see if you won a gift card to use at a local winery? Visit one with a concert planned this weekend.
Sugar Clay Winery & Vineyards, 1446 240th Ave., Thurman, is going all out before the big day with a three-course wine dinner for two paired with live acoustic music on Saturday.
Dinner is served from 7 to 8 p.m. and will include baby greens with warm gorgonzola dressing (paired with Cedar Ridge Red or Bandana Red wines); Cajun chicken alfredo over fettuccine (paired with Edelweiss); and chocolate cherry trifle (paired with Bada~Bing).
Live music by Adam Lee will be from 7 to 10 p.m.
Dinner is $75 per couple; reservations are required. Call (712) 628-2020 or email sugarclaywinery@iowatelecom.net.
The next day, Prairie Crossing Winery, 31506 Pioneer Trail, Treynor, holds a concert as part of its third annual Winter Concert Series. And, in advance of Valentine’s Day, the winery will offer 10 percent off all of their red wines during its concert.
The acoustic soloist, The Bald Philanthropist, will perform Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. As has become tradition at the winery, the owners will serve light appetizers (while supplies last). While there, enter your name into a drawing to be held during the last Sunday of the series (March 11). Prizes include wine, gift items and a few surprises.
The winery opens at 1 p.m., with the music starting at 2. There is a $5 cover (cover waived for case club members).
